Electrical Estimator

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator to determine the approximate costs of various electrical installations for industrial projects. The Electrical Estimator’s responsibilities include determining how long each contracting job will last, researching market prices for project materials and equipment, and communicating with clients to determine the scope of each project. To achieve success as an electrical estimator, it is essential to possess a keen eye for detail and a comprehensive understanding of electrical codes. An exceptional electrical estimator should excel in reading building plans and exhibit exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities//Duties

  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables
  • Develop full-scale project plans, including timelines, tasks, resources, and budget
  • Assemble and coordinate project staff and provide team direction
  • Negotiate and resolve issues related to Change Order, Request for Information, and Contract Scope of Work in a timely manner
  • Lead the planning and implementation of projects
  • Manage project budget and participate in monthly review meetings
  • Track and report on project performance to all stakeholders
  • Proactively identify project risk and solutions
  • Maintain rapport with architects, engineers, and general contractors to ensure customer satisfaction, quality of service, and long-term relations
  • Conducting site walks for quality assurance and project reviews
  • Conduct project evaluations and assessments of results to identify improvement opportunities
  • Manage all closeout procedures, including documentation, filing, record drawings, construction cost database input, follow-up marketing, and team debriefing
  • Drive division profitability through effective project execution
  • Identifying and building up cost estimates by analyzing the materials and labor needed to complete projects, from design conception to basic design
  • Examining and explaining the cost of wasted materials and possible delays in a project, and suggesting recommendations or coming up with solutions to fix these issues
  • Having and coming up with accurate or exact impressions, identifying and knowing the risks involved in the projects, creating production schedules, and so on
  • Efficiently preparing work and guidelines, and creating designs for distribution systems and new clients or customers
  • Liaising and communicating effectively with customers, vendors, engineers, architects, building officials, owners, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Reviewing commercial building plans to determine the electrical needs of a project
  • Reviewing supplier costs to determine how much each individual element costs, and negotiating with suppliers to bargain for the best prices
  • Maintaining cost of databases and outlining common costs to save time on future estimates

Electrical Estimator Requirements

  • Four-year business or engineering degree or equivalent experience (minimum of 8 years)
  • Minimum 8 years of electrical field experience 
  • Minimum 2 years as an Estimator 
  • Ability to analyze and assess multiple data points, including blueprints, material costs, and timelines to deliver an accurate estimate on time and within budget
  • High analytical and mathematical skills which required an electrical estimator to ensure that his/her calculations are accurate and correct to keep the job profitable
  • Sound organization and time management skills are required
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, which enable an electrical estimator to work efficiently with contractors, architects, and other professionals who are involved in construction projects
  • Particular attention to detail

Electrical Estimator Skills

  • Standards: NEC, NFPA, UL and ISA, as related to design and documentation
  • Classifications: Area classification requirements as related to design and documentation
  • Plans: Able to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, layout drawings and wiring diagrams, and modify them for optimization
  • Applications: Proficient in computer software, including MAC IOS, Microsoft Office, Windows, and bid software such as Accubid.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
